SUSTAINABILITY

As a business, we appreciate that natural resources are limited , and we think about future generations in all our decisions.

Adoption of organic agriculture for the contracted farmers is one such decision.

Organic agriculture preserves the diversity of species, maintains natural balance in the environment and has a positive impact on the development of rural areas and preservation of the natural resources.

COMMUNITY

Being responsible and caring corporate citizens, we at Avopro always work to better the lives of the community within which we operate.
It is our great joy to witness the socioeconomic impact that our presence is having in our avocado farming community.

In buying fruits from the community, we are able to bring farmers into the cash economy and thus empower them economically. Ours is a symbiotic partnership that aspires to deliver the best interests for the farmer and for ourselves as well.

Our company is creating jobs in the community both directly and indirectly. We have sourced majority of our employees from within the vicinity of our plant.

The presence of Avopro in the community has resulted in notable growth in other sectors supporting the avocado supply chain such as transport, agronomic services and others.

Through our continuous CSR endeavors, we implement projects that target to improve livelihoods and create a happier community.

Energy

Organic agriculture preserves the diversity of species, maintains natural balance in the environment and has a positive impact on the development of rural areas and preservation of the natural resources.
Avocado oil extraction generates huge quantities of waste. At Avopro EPZ Ltd, we are conceptualizing a circular economy approach in its handling.
This is geared at ensuring that the production waste, comprised of peels, stones and exhausted pulp, goes to adding more value to the environment or enters into the market in form of other usable products. The common practice is taking all processing waste to landfill. This requires transport and at landfill, all the methane produced is released into the atmosphere. With methane being 23 times more aggressive as a greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide, the economic utilization of waste holds great environmental benefit in terms of global warming. One way of dealing with the waste is the generation of biogas. Under favourable, anaerobic conditions, organic material is digested by various micro-organisms naturally present in the environment, producing biogas. A biogas plant can provide necessary and otherwise costly waste treatment alternative whilst sustainably producing energy.
This emission reduction also provides opportunity for earning carbon credits, firstly by preventing the release of methane into the atmosphere and secondly by substituting the use of fossil fuel which is unsustainable, both on an environmental as well as economical level.
With our processing plant located within an avocado growing region, environmental pollution from transport vehicles is greatly reduced.
